Barry J. McLoughlin has over three decades of experience as a leadership trainer, communications consultant, and educational program designer. He is the President of McLoughlin Media – a media training and consulting firm and, along with the firm’s Vice President, Laura Peck, has guided the firm’s transition into one of North America’s leading communications training firms, with offices in Ottawa and Washington, DC.
A former television writer, producer, and broadcaster, Barry is one of North America’s top communications consultants and seminar leaders, creating and delivering over 5000 seminars for governments and corporations in leadership communications, presentation skills, issues management, message development, media training, risk and crisis communications, and reputation management.
Barry has been profiled and interviewed on such programs as CBC’s Power and Politics, CTV’s PowerPlay and Canada AM, and Global TV’s The West Block, as well as making regular appearances in the National Post, Globe and Mail, and other print publications in Canada and the United States.
Barry received his Masters of Public Administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University in 1983, where he specialized in the study of the media’s impact on government, business, and public policy. In 2014, Barry graduated from the Certificate Program, Teaching the Case Study Method, at Harvard Business School.
Today, Barry is a Fellow and Adjunct Professor at the Riddell Masters Program in Political Management at Carleton University where he teaches Strategic Communications.
